Sabina Ahmed, MPT
Sabina graduated from Oakland University in Rochester, MI with a Master's in Physical Therapy. She has worked mainly in Outpatient orthopedic settings. She has taken numerous manual therapy courses through Oakland University and the University of St. Augustine; as well as other continuing education courses in muscle energy, in strain/counter strain. Sabina is a certified Clinical Instructor and lives in Novi with her husband and three children.
Dennis Engerer, PT
Dennis is a graduate from Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan. His experiences include Director of Physical Therapy at Wayne County General Hospital, Director of Physical Therapy at Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital, and he has been Director of Northville Physical Rehabilitation since 1985. Clinical strength is with emphasis on Orthopaedic Rehabilitation utilizing a wide variety of manual techniques, neuromuscular stimulation and biofeedback. Dennis resides in Northville with his wife and three sons.
Derek Ornekian, DPT
Derek received his Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science/Kinesiology from Michigan State University in 2003 and his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Grand Valley State University in 2007. He has worked exclusively in an orthopedic outpatient setting, seeing a wide variety of diagnoses, and has a special interest in return to sport rehabilitation. Derek has taken several continuing education courses including manual therapy and Pilates. He lives in Northville with his wife and two daughters.
Craig Serra, PT, DPT, OCS, FAAOMPT
Craig received his Bachelor's degree in Exercise science from Western Michigan University and his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of Michigan. He went on for further training and completed a residency and fellowship in orthopedics and manual physical therapy. Craig is a board certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist, an Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy Fellow, and a Credentialed Clinical Instructor. He has spent his career in an outpatient orthopedic setting and has a focus on return to sport therapy.
Denise graduated from Oakland University's Physical Therapy Program in 1981.
Her post graduate continuing education and experience has focused on integrating Osteopathic Manipulative Techniques with therapeutic exercise, and patient education in self management. She has taken multiple courses in manual therapy, functional re-training and patient self management using a variety of approaches.
She is especially interested in spine pain rehabilitation, however, utilizes various manual techniques with the spine and pelvis to assist improvement with limb pain.
Her approach is individual, customized to each patient's needs. Her practice philosophy is to intervene with what the patient cannot do by themselves and instruct the patient in self-care including exercise, self corrective techniques, posture and body mechanics.
Jessica Ghannam, PTA
Jessica graduated with a Bachelor of Science from Oakland University and an Applied Science degree from the PTA program at Baker College. She then obtained her licensure as a Physical Therapist Assistant. Jessica has worked primarily in outpatient clinics, with experience working with neurological disorders. She enjoys helping her patients achieve their therapy goals along with improving their health and well-being.
Connie S. Freeman, OTR/L
Northville Physical Rehabilitation would like to announce that we now provide Occupational Therapy services for your clients. We have added Connie S. Freeman, OTR/L to our rehabilitation team. She comes to us with 35 years experience and has several specialty areas in addition to being able to provide standard OT services for your patients. Listed below are some of the extensive services we can now provide in addition to our Physical Therapy programs:
- Activity of Daily Living Assessment & treatment for dressing, bathing, homemaking. This would include home evaluations and recommendations for modifications.
- Custom orthotic splinting for neurological and orthopedic patients.
- Oral motor assessment and treatment of oral musculature for chewing and swallowing.
- Ocular-motor treatment to strengthen eye musculature for neurological clients.
- Upper extremity treatment of strengthening, fine/gross motor control, sensory processing, safety awareness, sequencing skills for neurologically involved patients including CVA, Head Injury, MS, MD, Parkinson's.
- Energy conservation/ work simplification for vocational & avocational activities.
- An educational/adaptations program for families caring for dementia patients.
Denise Henderson Speech Language Pathologist
Denise received a B.A. in Speech and Hearing Science from SUNY at Buffalo and a Master of Science In Education: Speech Language Pathology at Buffalo State College. Denise has: Michigan State license and certification by the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA), experience in public/private schools and private practice, interest in the impact of language on literacy. She has provided diagnostic and therapeutic intervention for children and adolescents with: articulation disorders, apraxia of speech, phonological disorders, phonemic awareness/literacy skills, language delay, receptive language disorders, expressive language disorders, auditory processing disorders, and learning disabilities.
Marisa Laskowski, DPT
Marisa graduated from Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan with her Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2008. She has worked exclusively in outpatient orthopedic facilities since her graduation. Marisa has taken several continuing education courses in kinesiotaping and muscle energy. She is very experienced in treating a variety of patients with spinal dysfunctions, sports related injuries, balance impairments, and post-surgical limitations. Marisa resides in Northville with her husband and spoiled canine, Hemi.
